On Monday, we celebrated a birthday. Happy birthday, Abby!
In math, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Students had fun sorting cones, cylinders, cubes, and spheres on an interactive flip chart. At home (or even when you are out running errands), make it a game to see how many different shapes your child can spot!
Groundhog Day
This week, we learned about Groundhog Day! We learned about where this tradition came from. We also learned about a famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, and if he sees his shadow, it means six more weeks of winter. If he does not see his shadow, then spring weather should be near! We learned all about shadows and how they are formed.
In our art center, students had the opportunity to make groundhog puppets!
As groundhog day neared, we started making predictions about whether or not we thought the groundhog would see his shadow. Students drew a picture of themselves in a winter scene and a spring scene. We discussed what the weather is like in winter compared to spring, and the kinds of details they could add to their pictures.
On Monday, students will circle the results; since Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, he predicts spring will come early. We will circle our spring picture! Students cut out a paper groundhog and glued their pictures and groundhog on brown paper. It looks like our groundhogs are holding our papers.
We had another birthday on Thursday. Happy birthday, Carson!
